New Link Mission Family in the parish of
Lightning Ridge, working as BCA Missioners
The township of Lightning
Ridge is a town in the North West of NSW. The town
exists for the opal and the tourism that it generates. There
are over 63 different nationalities represented with many
people living in basic 'camps' even after finding their
fortune. The town has a school of 500 students, and a small
hospital. With more people coming in the hope of making a
new start and becoming rich, it is quickly becoming a service
centre for the surrounding district.
The out-centres are Goodooga and Cumborah. There are many
people who come here because they want to find something
or are escaping something. They need Jesus, so please pray
that blind eyes will be opened to the Gospel, and God will
use us and the Christians in town to bring them to salvation.
In the midst of the community, is a growing Christian congregation.
People from all over Australia, from all sorts of denominational
backgrounds meet to proclaim Christ.
The diversity of the Ridge does not change. A transient
community with many people from many different backgrounds.
The population is unknown and there is an endless supply
of people who need encouraging in their relationship with
God or who need to know God. Loneliness is common. Lightning
Ridge is a town of many surprises, both in climate and population.
There's always something new happening in ministry. The Lightning
Ridge Community Church seeks to be a `gospel shining light'
bringing immediate and eternal hope to those who come our
way. Pray for a spiritual boom in the lives of those who
live here, that they might turn back to God.
The position at Lightning Ridge has
been filled by Mike and Chantalle Keith who
moved into the Ridge in the first week of December
2007. They have one daughter Rachel. |
